Heritage Day

Yesterday we celebrated Heritage Day, a South African holiday dedicated to the diverse people contributing to this country's culture and heritage.  When visiting a new place, one of my favorite ways to experience a new culture is by trying new food. Biltongbobotie and milk tart are now among my favorite eats.  Another one of my favorite ways to soak up the local culture is to just sit, listen and watch the world go by in a coffee shop.

Heritage Day is also gaining reputation as "National Braai Day".  Think of it as a 4th of July celebration and BBQ but without the fireworks.  Judging by the lack of chicken and meats available in the supermarket this Sunday, it's becoming quite a popular tradition.  I hope you enjoyed your weekend, too!
