I read a wide variety of travel magazines and one that consistently delivers great content is AFAR. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I found out about their new global social network, AFAR Connect.

Most AFAR readers are well traveled, and in my opinion, asking for advice from someone that truly knows a destination beats reading a guidebook any day.  To join their community, I started by completing a short quiz that determined my “Travel Personality” (a “Cultural Adventurer”).  Then, I filled in my profile with the places I’ve been and my interests, and the site automatically made suggestions of other members to follow. This site also allows you to ask and answer questions, matching you to members based on the information in their profiles.  Neat, huh?  The real value in a site like this is the content the users provide. That reminds me, I really should start planning my next vacation...
