The Silo Hotel | Cape Town, South Africa

There are two exciting new developments opening at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town this year. Heatherwick, a London-based design studio, is in the process of transforming the harbour's 1920's era grain storage complex into a world class art museum, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. Above the museum, in the space that once housed a grain storage elevator, you'll find the Silo Hotel, Cape Town's newest luxury boutique hotel.

The Accommodation

If I had to describe The Silo in three words it would be: colors, art, and views.

Rooms are decorated with rich jewel tone fabrics and fantastic pieces of contemporary African art.

The real highlight of every room is the bathroom. Every bathroom has a ginormous pillowed glass window (featuring 56 hand-crafted panes) and deep soaking tub. The views vary based on the position of the room, of course, however I can vouch that they are all stunning in their own way.

My favorite room? It's actually the disabled access room based on the location, size, and emerald tones. If I was really going to splurge, I would obviously recommend the Penthouse, with its living room, dining room, small cinema, large bedroom with his and her bathrooms, office, and wraparound balcony.

Some rooms have balconies which overlook what will be the Zeitz MOCAA Sculpture Garden, so that's definitely something to keep in mind when talking to a travel professional when booking.

Dine

The Granary Café is located on the 6th floor of the hotel. The decor feels more masculine on this floor, so I instantly pictured having a nightcap here, overlooking the twinkly lights of the CBD in the distance.

If you're looking to escape and catch up on the rugby score, you're in luck - the Willaston bar has a TV tucked around the corner towards the city center side.

Do

You definitely don't want to miss the glass pool on the rooftop (the 11th floor) with views stretching out to Table Mountain and the CBD below. It's accessible to the public, so even if you're not a guest, come here for a special drink at sunset and enjoy the view

Within The Silo District, you'll find a Virgin Active Collection gym and the shops and dining outlets of the V&A Waterfront within walking distance. Take a sunset cruise or a helicopter ride right from this active harbourfront.

The hotel is also centrally located for exploring Cape Town. The art galleries of Loop Street and the hip restaurants of Bree Street are a short taxi ride away.

Perfect For

Couples, families, and business travelers.

Location
